When the script is added to your webpage it confirms the existence of all the images in the document and if it finds that a particular image doesn’t exist then it replaces the image with a custom image. Internet Explorer is the only browser that the image works with. If Internet Explorer doesn’t shows a particular image then its dimensions are 28 x 30 without the 'alt' tag. The script removes the 'alt' tag of all the images and checks with this size. If such an image exists, it is a broken-image.

Both Mozilla (includes FireFox) and Internet Explorer include a way to make sections of a page editable. IE has the MSHTML Editing Platform, and Mozilla has Midas.
Many editors are implemented in javascript using the contentEditable and designMode features in Mozilla and IE. Others use Java, ActiveX, Flash, browser plugins or other means. Some are free or open-source; others are commercial.
We created this site to keep track of all the different browser based wysiwyg editors out there, and give developers a place to discuss them (see our discussion forums).
