So you've stumbled upon DOINS and want to know more? Well, here's the place where you can do just that.
DOINS is an interactive web site wherein anyone with common interests may share news. News stories are submitted to the webmaster, who then posts them onto the main page. Then other people can make comments on them.
Right now, DOINS is basically a feature-incomplete replica of slashdot.org, hence the acronym DOINS: DOINS Is Not Slashdot.
DOINS doesn't have all of the features that Slashdot has, but as time permits we will be working on implementing them.

A simple script that makes it easy to post regular news articles. Facilities include templates for new articles and support for alternating row colors if tables are used. There is even the option to enclose the admin script in a template in order to integrate it into your (or your clients) site. The admin script can be further configured with CSS. The news display can be called from any PHP page with an include (""); or by the use of a "virtual" statement as a server side include from SHTML pages etc.

lightweight alternative to Live Journal - written in PHP.** Basic journal/diary and profiles modeled after Live Journal. No community building, finding users by interests, etc. nor do I intend on writing any clients.
There are lots of sites and scripts that do this already. I liked the interface of LiveJournal, but it has a pretty heavy Perl requirement for installation. And the actual site requires a donation, which I understand based on their costs, but still don't like.
** Note: Live Journal is open source already, written in Perl. The alternative is that Digital Diary is written in PHP.

This is an awesome news script with cool futures: smilies, dn-code, md5-passwod protection, adminarea where you can edit/delete messages and comments you can also edit your settings there and add/edit/delete news-users. People who come on your site can also post comments on the news. If you dont want this future you can easely set it off in the adminarea.

If you are struggling with the number of spammed comments on your CuteNews installation - FI-DD has posted a wonderful captcha (image verification) hack for CuteNews which will eliminate all non-human posted comments and leave your comments section clean.
PS. (you can also install the c4a addon which will require all comments to be approved by administrator before before posted on your news page.
